In this miniseries of Masterclasses, you will learn how to draft LPAs that demonstrate real value to your clients. We will seek to overcome some of the common challenges that we face when advising clients about LPAs, so that our clients will see us as their trusted advisor, recommend us and instruct us time and time again.

By the end of this session, you will be able to:-

  • Identify what instructions to take from clients to effectively draft their LPAs.
  • Understand pricing options and how to add value.
  • Write Instructions and Preferences in an LPA, including some common clauses and challenges.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of Business LPAs and when they are needed.
  • Build an understanding of Health and Welfare decisions and best interest decision making.
  • Interpret the differences between advance decisions and a health and welfare LPA.
  • Understand how advance decisions and health and welfare LPAs interact and which is best to use.
  • Identify the best approach for signposting and advising attorneys.

Now a Consultant Solicitor at Richard Nelson Solicitors, I also provide training to legal professionals, estate planners, firms, and their teams in all aspects of Private Client Law; Wills, Probate, Tax, Trusts, Court of Protection and Care Funding, as well as skills based training. I am also a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Law, based at the Bloomsbury Campus in London.

I have been involved in the area of Wills and Probate since 2007 and qualified as a solicitor in 2013. I’m also a Professional Member of the Professional Speaking Association.
