Probate practice can be deeply rewarding, but it is also increasingly demanding. Practitioners are often managing grieving clients, complex family dynamics, administrative delays, rising expectations and heavy caseloads, all while trying to deliver a calm, professional and compassionate service. This practical session will explore how legal professionals can better manage client expectations, reduce unnecessary friction and protect their own wellbeing in what can feel like a challenging and emotionally demanding area of practice.
Using the DISC model as a simple but powerful framework, the session will look at how different people prefer to communicate, make decisions, process information and respond under pressure. Delegates will consider how adapting their communication style can help build trust, manage client expectations, reduce misunderstandings and lower the risk of conflict or complaints.
The session will also explore how DISC can be used as a tool for self-awareness. By better understanding our own preferred ways of working, communicating and responding to stress, we can make more conscious choices about how we manage our time, energy, workload and wellbeing.
This session is about recognising that law is not only a technical profession; it is also a people profession. When we understand ourselves and others more clearly, we can improve client relationships, strengthen team communication and create healthier, more sustainable ways of working.
By the end of this session, you will be able to:-
- Set expectations and maintain client confidence in a delays-heavy probate landscape
- Explain common pinch points and typical causes of delay in probate and estate administration.
- Use practical communication strategies to keep clients informed, reassured, and realistic.
- Protect wellbeing while handling emotionally and procedurally demanding matters
- Recognise common stressors specific to probate work (delay, conflict, bereavement, complaints pressure).
- Implement simple, realistic strategies for boundaries, workload management, and emotional resilience.
